The little corner of Kloof Nek Road and New Church Street has a high density of really cool Cape Town restaurants and bars. Kyoto Garden will forever be one of my absolute favorite places in Cape Town. The ambiance is as zen as the menu – Japanese cuisine at its best with some of the freshest seafood and sushi. The food is an extensive bistro menu with classics like steak tartar, calamari, steak, and risotto – nothing wrong with it but nothing to write home about either. Still, if you want to see what Capetonians consider one of the best Kloof Street restaurants – book a table.

Their speciality is fresh seafood, and they take great care in sourcing high-quality and unusual ingredients from around the world. Some of their offerings include Mozambican conch, eel, sea urchin, Alaskan king crab, deep-sea scallops and wild salmon. The restaurant’s decor features bold scarlet hues, upholstered seating and crisp white tablecloths. Club Kloof has three areas for guests to choose from, paying homage to David Hicks’ legendary 1970s designs.

They are mostly known for feeding hungover breakfasters at any time of the day since their legendary breakfast (their words not mine) is served until 16h30. Back in the day, the Power & the Glory was the coolest hangout in Cape Town. Craft beer and hotdogs, good music, and an overall appropriate hipster vibe. I am not too sure, but if you are young, don’t mind noise, and waiting for your drink check it out and report back to me. And if you hate it you can always pop next door to Publik for a more sophisticated glass. I guess it was an interesting location choice to open a restaurant like Soi Bar right next to Kyoto Garden.

With warm early spring temperatures in March 2022, Khloé’s daughter True took a pre-summer dip in her mom’s massive backyard pool. True, and her cousin Dream Kardashian danced around the reality star’s gigantic kitchen in a March 29 Instagram Stories video. It showed Koko’s long center island, double ovens, a full wall of floor-to-ceiling cabinets for storage and an adorable eating area for four featuring a white table and comfy chairs. The dishes and their plating have an old-school charm, but the flavors are always spot-on. The homemade pasta dishes are a must-try, with the ravioli being my personal favorite. Obviously, the pasta dishes are served in the appropriate size here so you can have your main after. Meat is a must at Carne as the name implies and they have quite a few interesting cuts on the menu – when in doubt ask Giorgio or his team for a recommendation. Whether you’re a food enthusiast, a shopaholic, or a history buff, you’ll find something to pique your interest along this dynamic street.
The menu at Club Kloof is focused on simple yet superior ingredients, served in a small-plate sharing format. Don’t miss the pillowy but crisp sourdough pizzas with a twist, a standout favourite. There are plenty of cool Kloof Street restaurants and bars and Asoka is one of them.
